To provide food, education and training to under-privileged children and women from the slums of the world. We will provide them with access to basic amenities and education, so that they can transform themselves into successful, independent citizens. We will also build self-sustaining programs for them that will help reduce hunger, child abuse, unwanted births, diseases and create a sense of hope for these individuals. We will initially focus on the slums of Kolkata, India, and then expand to centers world wide through collaborations with organizations with a similar purpose as ours.
Geographic areas served: Kolkata, India
Programs: EDUCATION & FOOD FOR 400 NEEDY STUDENTS FOR 5 YEARS
Highlights of projects
Atghara, Kolkata, India -- This was Promise's first project, and it grew to a community of 70 children from humble beginnings in 2001. Due to unavoidable circumstances, this project is on hold temporarily. We hope to resume it in the near future.
Nawabpur, Kolkata, India -- Here we provide nutrition and education to children living in an extremely poor rural area on the outskirts of Kolkata. Currently we have about 200 children, mostly very young.
Self Sustaining Project for Women -- This is our second project in Nawabpur where presently 120 women are involved in making a specific product - a hand-knitted dishcloth. This product is being marketed in the USA by an US marketing company.
